Couples Golf Nine and Dine: Luck of the Draw

Cyndi Hoover

The Quail Creek Couples Golf Association held its first Nine and Dine event for 2024 on Jan. 31. The event, titled Luck of the Draw, had 112 participants playing nine holes on either the Quail or the Roadrunner courses. The format was simple: Each player was assigned a card suit of diamond, heart, spade, or club, and then they played their own ball. Two balls of the four-person team counted for the score; however, the players didn’t know which of the two balls would be used until they arrived on the next tee box to see a placard with the two suits used. If there was a joker placard replacing one of the suits, the team could score any of the other three balls.

There were four closest-to-the-pin skill games—two for the men and two for the ladies. Congratulations to Bob Thornton for not only winning the men’s closest-to-the-pin on Quail hole number 2 but for doing it with a hole-in-one! Lori Whidden-Gross won the prize on Quail number 8, Cherie McDaniels on Roadrunner number 2, and Rudy Lucero on Roadrunner number 6.

After the round, the participants gathered in the Madera Ballroom for a cash bar and a buffet dinner of white and red chili. Each person was also given a sealed envelope containing five cards, and up to two more cards were handed out to those who had one putt during the round, and then the group enjoyed a fun round of poker.

A big thank you to our QC club pro and assistant pro, Josh and Nano, for their participation in the event and for providing prizes for the skills games.

The next Nine and Dine is scheduled for May 3 and is titled Margaritaville.
