The Women of Quail Creek (TWOQC) Scholarship Program offers the opportunity to create named scholarships in celebration of an event or in memory of a beloved individual. These scholarships can be single gifts or a fund to which many contribute.

When Harvey Beim passed away on Feb. 4, 2024, friends approached his wife Marilyn about creating a Harvey Beim Memorial Scholarship Fund. Having been on the Scholarship Committee and knowing how much Harvey valued education, Marilyn agreed.

A son of immigrants, Harvey did not have an easy life. Rather than allowing his difficulties to define him, Harvey used his strength and determination to become the successful yet compassionate man his family and friends cherished. He had hoped to be an engineer or architect but ultimately became a wise, principled, and highly respected financial advisor, applying insight and thirst for knowledge to his profession.

Harvey’s gentleness, kind nature, and generosity defined him. He instilled in his children a moral center to always do the right thing and the importance of family, friends, education, and community. He was a devoted volunteer leader of his and Marilyn’s Jewish communities, both in Michigan and Green Valley. To quote his dear friend and rabbi Norm Roman, “He will be remembered by many friends and neighbors, all of whom will salute him by visiting a museum, listening to a symphony, or at the very least, enjoying a tasty kosher beef hot dog!”

Education was paramount to Harvey, and he gave his children the best education he could afford. He encouraged his wife Marilyn to fulfill her dream of completing her bachelor’s degree at Oakland University at age 61, and even as his health declined, he urged his single-mom caregivers to return to school and further their educations.

All donations to the Harvey Beim Memorial Scholarship Fund will therefore go toward scholarships awarded by The Women of Quail Creek to Women in Transition (WIT), women who are older than 21 and resuming their educations. Checks should be made out to TWOQC with “Harvey Beim Scholarship Fund” in the memo line and mailed to Suzan Bryceland, 618 N. Yucca Butte Lane, Green Valley, AZ 85614, or left in a box at Suzan’s front door. The goal is to help fund 2024 scholarships to be awarded in May 2024 through donations received by April 15. TWOQC is a 501(c)(3) organization, so gifts to the scholarship fund are tax deductible.

Quail Creek residents are invited to attend the Scholarship Awards Program on the evening of May 8 to meet and honor recipients of the 2024 scholarships. Look for details in What’s Happening closer to the date.
