Challenging Tournaments for Billiards Club

The winter months are busy ones for the Quail Creek Billiards Club (QCBC). Saturdays are the time for monthly tournaments, both in-house and with neighboring communities in Southern Arizona. They are open to men and women club members.

The first Saturday of every month is reserved for in-house tournaments. On Feb. 3 an 8-ball competition was held for the first 16 members of the club who signed up. The two finalists were Bob Coulter and John Andersen, and Bob won with a 2-0 sweep.

Then on Feb. 10, QCBC’s competitive Travel Team hosted Mission Royale from Casa Grande. It took a determined and dedicated Mission Royale team to make the trip south to Quail Creek amid cold, rainy, and snowy conditions that morning.

The two closely matched teams played competitive games of 8-ball, and the outcome was close: Mission Royale won 25 games, and Quail Creek won 23 games. The two teams always enjoy a friendly rivalry with respect for each other. Members of the Quail Creek team included John Andersen, Kurt Bowman, Bob Coulter, Dwight Hildebrand, Pat Nigro, Mike Ohrel, Manny Quijada, and Dick Randles.

The next Travel Team tournament is on April 6 at Rincon Country West RV Resort in Tucson.
