In addition to a Dispose-A–Med collection, the Pima County Sheriff’s Dept. will also be conducting a Shred-A-Thon at the Preparedness Fair. The Fair sponsored by the Greater Green Valley Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) as part of National Preparedness Month activities will be held at the West Center, 1111 S GVR Drive in Green Valley on Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For the Shred-A-Thon, interested persons will not have to get out of their cars to unload their records to be shredded. Rather, sheriff deputies and JROTC cadets will be on hand to unload cars and do the heavy lifting. Being prepared means doing such activities ahead of time. There will be no time to go through records when a disaster strikes and having financial records floating down the street after a flood strikes is not good. Please take advantage of this free service.
The Fair will feature vendors from the various government and non-profit organizations that will provide aid and resource information on what people can expect in time of a natural or manmade disaster.
Valley Assistance Services will provide blood pressure and blood sugar testing. Some of the other vendors include the Red Cross, Dept of Forestry and Fire Management, Pima County Office of Emergency Management, Santa Rita Fire District, Fire Corps, Scam Squad, SAV, SW Rescue Dogs, Paws Patrol and The Animal League of Green Valley and several more. Attendees can also learn how to properly use a fire extinguisher.
Brunch/lunch will be available for purchase at the Longhorn Grill and Saloon Chuckwagon Food Truck from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Admission to the Fair is free. However, attendees are asked to bring non-perishable foods, paper, cleaning or hygiene products to be shared between the two local food banks. There will also be a raffle for a “Go Bag” designed for those occasions when one must evacuate as well as some door prizes.
