Preparedness Fair Is Just Around the Corner

Peggy McGee

September is National Preparedness Month so mark your calendars for Saturday, Sept. 19. All are invited to attend the Green Valley/Sahuarita 2026 Preparedness Fair. Sponsored by the Greater Green Valley Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Fair will be held at the GVR West Center, 1111 S GVR Drive, on Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The purpose of the Preparedness Fair is to make people aware of steps they can take before a disaster strikes as well as what resources are available in the local community to aid in the event of a natural or manmade disaster. It would be well worth one’s investment of time to learn what steps can be taken in advance for yourself and family, including pets, before disaster strikes.

Some of the presenters for the Fair include the AZ Dept. of Forestry and Fire Management who will talk about their Firewise program; Pima County Office of Emergency Management; SW Gas; TEP; Pima County Health Dept; Animal League, Paws Patrol, Equine Voices; Search and Rescue; Scam Squad, SAV, Sheriff’s Department.

The Santa Rita Fire Dept. will have a fire engine or truck there which should excite the children and young-at-heart. Activity books for kids will be available. There will be a Food Truck in the parking lot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission to the Fair is free.

Attendees are asked to bring some non-perishable foods, paper, cleaning or hygiene products to be shared between the two local food banks. There will also be a raffle for a “Go Bag” designed for those occasions when one must evacuate, as well as some door prizes.
