Mark Roth and Kim Redbird
Carole Berg
Every Quail Creek unit has its own distinct personality, and unit 35B is known for its strong sense of support and easy camaraderie. Neighbors here look out for one another, creating a community where connection comes naturally.
Located on the north side of Quail Crossing Boulevard near the pickleball court complex, this 117-home neighborhood enjoys scenic walking paths, fresh air, and the kind of setting that invites spontaneous daily meetups.
Unit representative Mark Roth stepped into his role early, becoming a welcoming presence after being the first to move into the neighborhood in 2020. Originally from Papillion, Neb., Mark saw the position as a natural way to connect with incoming neighbors arriving from across the country.
That spirit was put to the test almost immediately. In January, 2021, during the early days of COVID, unit 35B hosted its first “Meet in the Cul-de-Sac.” Masks and fist bumps replaced handshakes, but all 13 households showed up, eager for connection and a chance to enjoy the mild winter weather together.
Since then, those early efforts have grown into lasting traditions. Annual gatherings now feature shared snacks, desserts, and genuine fellowship. Beyond organized events, it’s the everyday gestures that define the unit—neighbors helping with dog walks, offering rides to appointments or the airport, or simply taking time to talk.
Social opportunities extend well beyond the annual gatherings. Residents enjoy pickleball potlucks at the nearby ramada, picnic lunches at Veteran’s Memorial Park and Sahuarita Lake Park, bocce ball games, and time together at Desert Meadows Park. Creative events like a pie swap on Pi Day (3/14) add a playful touch, and occasional collaborations with units 35A and 36 broaden the sense of community.
Kim Redbird recently stepped in as co-representative, following Dave Wolf’s five-year term. As a winter resident, Kim values the relaxed, outdoor gatherings that make it easy to meet neighbors and build connections. With Kim away during the warmer months, there is an opportunity for another co-representative to help keep activities going year-round.
Mark and Kim provide steady leadership, welcoming new residents, distributing source books, and encouraging participation. At the same time, they emphasize that the strength of unit 35B comes from shared involvement, with neighbors stepping up to host events and bring fresh ideas forward.
Several Quail Creek units are currently seeking representatives and co-representatives. Those interested in getting involved are encouraged to contact unit chair Bobbi Gordon at ogbg@sbcglobal.net. And, if you feel called, please join us at our unit representatives meetings. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19, at 3 p.m. in the Silver Room at the Madera Clubhouse.
