On Feb. 24, 12 women from Quail Creek, Sherri Norine, Cindy Currie, Lorna Yates, Jennie Gaines, Shaunna Simons, Joan Brown, Carol Haug, Nancy Valdez, Carolyn Arendt, Delphine Casey, Sherry Staab, and Nancy Vittor, visited the Harker movie set and Western Museum, a unique homegrown western town in South Tucson created by Rich Harker.

This private three-quarter–scale town features detailed, authentic-style buildings modeled after those from the 1890s. The structures are used as a filming location for independent Western movies and have been built and maintained by actors and other enthusiasts who share a passion for the genre.

During the visit, the group had the opportunity to ask questions of several actors, many of whom have appeared in Western films. The ladies also enjoyed an informative presentation from the set’s armorer, the person responsible for the weapons used in filming, which provided interesting insight into how firearms and props are safely handled on set.

Following the tour, the group gathered for lunch at Red Robin in the Irvington shopping center. The outing was a fun and educational experience for everyone involved, and another trip is already being planned for next spring!
