Fifteen Let’s Travel Club members participated in a walking tour titled “El Presidio and Downtown Tucson” on March 24. Scott Darlage, owner and tour guide of Strolls and Stories Tours, shared fascinating tales along our private, two-mile tour. Included in our tour was a visit to the historic Pima county courthouse to see the courtroom where the Dillinger gang was arraigned in 1934. We also visited a historic gazebo bandstand and learned of many stories that take place there, including the tale of a western gunfighter who partied the night away next to it. And so much more! We concluded our tour near the Fox Theatre, a southwest Art Deco-designed building. Afterwards, we had a delicious meal at the Nook. It is a casual American breakfast/brunch spot, located just steps away from the streetcar line. Parking at the Mercado San Agustin and taking the streetcar was a fun and easy way to commute to and from Downtown Tucson for our walking tour.
