April 21 found our own Jennie Gaines coordinating nine of our adventurous nurses to take a tour of the Historic Hacienda de la Canoa (Canoa Ranch)—and what a day it was! Canoa Ranch provided a knowledgeable tour guide who shared fascinating stories about this historic property, bringing its rich past to life at every turn. Open to the public, Canoa Ranch features a number of beautifully refurbished buildings and grounds that paint a vivid picture of pioneer life—a time when resilience and resourcefulness were simply part of daily survival.
After the tour, we gathered for a lovely picnic lunch in the shade of a sprawling tree. We enjoyed bag lunches prepared by Weezie Bryson, head chef at the Sahuarita Food Bank and Community Resource Center. True to form, Weezie offered us a wonderful variety of options—but it was her chocolate chip cookies that stole the show.
The Quail Creek (QC) Nurses hold monthly gatherings featuring a wide variety of events and outings. All active and retired nurses are welcome—there are no membership fees, just good company and great adventures!
Our events are organized by committee members Janine Baxter, Jennie Gaines, and Carol Michels.
Our next outing is Friday, May 22, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Join us for a ride on the Tucson Sun Link Streetcar to the Coit Museum of Pharmacy and Health Services, located on the University of Arizona campus. Lunch in Tucson will follow the 11 a.m. tour.
Contact Janine Baxter for questions at 509-919-1399 or janine_baxter@hotmail.com.
