The Touched By Cancer Support Group is seeking more people to drive cancer patients to their scheduled doctor and treatment appointments. You can help save a life by being a volunteer driver for the Road to Recovery program, which is sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
Volunteers may choose the day of the week and how much time they wish to give to this program. Volunteers pick up a cancer patient at their home and deliver them to their appointment. They wait for the patient at the doctor’s office or treatment facility and bring them right back to their home. There are no meetings to attend, and you decide when you are an available driver.
Many cancer patients are not getting the treatments they need because they do not have a ride to get there. It is important for cancer patients to continue their appointments and treatments, but it isn’t always possible, because their caregiver might not be available or not able to drive that day.
Learn more about this Road to Recovery volunteer opportunity by attending the Touched By Cancer Support Group meeting on Monday, March 9, at 1 p.m. The meeting is held in the Mesquite Room in the Keno Conference Center. Quail Creek Road to Recovery driver Terrie O’Dierno will be at the meeting to share the details of her years as a volunteer driver. Terrie says, “Take it from me, everyone that I have driven has been so appreciative that it makes it all worthwhile.”
Consider attending this meeting to learn more about being a Road to Recovery driver. Unfortunately, we can’t provide rides for everyone who asks us to help them. You can change that. For more information, contact Terrie O’Dierno at ttm3@cox.net or Ginny Hutcheson at vhutcheson@msn.com.
