October Photo Contest Winners

The Photography Club of Quail Creek asked members to submit photos on the theme of Humorous for the October contest.

Jeff Krueger won first place with his image Honest, Hon, Just Lookin’. Jeff said he captured the image while walking around between sessions of a photo workshop. He said, “Sometimes it pays to have a camera in hand, as this was a moment you couldn’t stage and had one shot to capture. I don’t normally do street or people photography, but it was just too perfect to pass up. I was far enough away not to get noticed and shot at 200mm.” The image was shot in color but processed as black and white. Jeff said the settings on his Canon EOS R5 MkII “weren’t ideal for this kind of work, f/10 at 1/60th second, ISO 400, but got the job done.”

Shari Rodgers won second place with her image of a running dog: Yipeeeee! Shari said, “I love photographing happy, running dogs, as they make amazing faces. This is especially true for what we call FastCat through the AKC. It never disappoints!” Shari captured the image with her Nikon D500, 400 mm, f/6.3, 1600 sec, ISO 100, Exp -1.

Jim Brukstrand won third place with About to Start the Ride, taken at the Tucson Rodeo in February. Jim said, “The rodeo has always started with youngsters 5 to 12 years old riding in various events. The adults have bareback horse riding, and the kids ride sheep bareback. It is hilarious to watch, as the riders generally slip down to the side within a few yards of leaving the ‘chute.’ They seem to be hanging on for dear life, eventually falling off.” Canon 90D, 300 mm, f/6.3, 1/2000 sec. The raw was post-processed in Lightroom Classic.

The Photography Club of Quail Creek sponsors a monthly contest where members submit photos that are rated by independent judges. Membership is open to all residents of Quail Creek. Additional information is available at www.pcqc.org.
