The Women of Quail Creek’s (TWOQC) Small Group On-The-Go experience on the beautiful afternoon of Nov. 15 was, quite literally, historic!
Twelve members of the group ventured out to the Tubac Presidio to sit in a rustic schoolhouse and listen to Jack Lasseter’s “Jack Talk” about the inspirational topic of the Navajo Code Talkers of World War II.
Through Jack’s eyes, they learned the profound irony of how the Navajo language, once forbidden to be spoken, became America’s secret weapon. U.S. Marines chose these 29 very young Native Americans to create an unbreakable code, using their language, to serve in the Pacific Theater. Their code was unbreakable, because the language was not just complex, but also unwritten. These stories of their vital contributions, courage, and amazing bravery remained classified for decades.
After the lecture, the group also got a bonus tour of the Presidio Museum. Wrapping up the day, the ladies gathered around a large, round table at Wisdom’s Café to review their informative afternoon. And the food was wonderful as well!
