Dust off your Western gear so you will be ready for the second annual Valley Assistance Services (VAS) Kicking Up Your Heels Hoedown on Jan. 10. What a great way to welcome the new year and help a local charity. VAS is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides community health and social services to families and seniors in the Greater Green Valley/Sahuarita area, all the way down to Rio Rico.
Doors will open at 12:45 p.m. for the Hoedown, which runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Longhorn Grill & Saloon, 28851 S. Nogales Highway, I-19 Exit 48, in Amado. The menu will include shredded brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken, campfire beans, and southwestern coleslaw. The decadent dessert will be a peach berry cobbler.
Practice your line dancing skills so you will be ready for the Western music provided by the Hardscrabble Band starting at 1 p.m. The band will play until 3:45 p.m. when the winners of the 50/50 raffle and silent auction will be announced.
Tickets at $50 are available at the Green Valley Chamber of Commerce, Nancy Pantz, Posada Java, and Valley Assistance Services, 3950 S. Camino del Heroe. Tickets may also be purchased online at ValleyAssistanceServices.org. To avoid a trip into town, one may also order tickets by contacting Quail Creek resident Peggy McGee at positivelypeggygv@gmail.com or 520-207-6188. Because there is a 250-person limit, please get your tickets early so you won’t miss out on the fun. The deadline to purchase tickets is Jan. 5.
