Armando Ojeda addresses Financial Considerations during PLPO’s “Begin With the End in Mind” workshop.

Admittedly, making “final” preparations is a difficult topic for many people. However, addressing this in advance can greatly reduce the amount of stress already inherent in such a life-changing event. To that end, Partners Losing Partners Outreach (PLPO) serves not only surviving spouses or partners but also has expanded its mission to help Quail Creek residents know what they should do to have affairs in order before someone passes.
Following an information-oriented seminar last November, PLPO identified the need for a more hands-on workshop to prepare a plan that can help family, companion caregivers, and others ensure all affairs are in order. This process can be overwhelming, but having a plan to prepare in advance can reduce the unavoidable stress that comes when someone does pass.
To address this, PLPO held a free workshop in March of this year. Due to great interest and a considerable waitlist, the “Begin with the End in Mind” workshop was repeated on Oct. 30. The workshop defined “the End” as development of a working plan for document organization and maintenance.
Attendees received guidance to help identify action steps to ensure important and necessary documents are up to date and accessible to those who will need them. Gary Reed opened the workshop, followed by speakers in four distinct areas. The first speaker, Julie Sherwood, addressed Legal Considerations, followed by Bobbi Gordon who spoke on Personal Considerations. Financial Considerations was the next topic, presented by Armando Ojeda, and Gary Reed ended the workshop with Miscellaneous Considerations and a general question and answer period.
Because this important topic will eventually affect all of us, PLPO intends to repeat this seminar next year on March 26. Watch for notices in the daily What’s Happening or reach out to any PLPO member. If you are interested in learning more about PLPO’s mission and/or becoming a member, our monthly meetings are held on the first Thursday of each odd-numbered month (except July) at 1 p.m. in the Mesquite Room. Many volunteer opportunities are available.
Please note: PLPO’s information resource outreach extends to all Quail Creek spouses, partners, and companion caregivers. Details about PLPO’s mission and how to request outreach can be found at www.quailcreekhoa.org/web/quail-creek-hoa/partners-losing-partners-outreach.
