Introducing the Quail Creek Secret Sauce of Unit 6!

Carole Berg

Welcome to the first in a series celebrating the beating heart of Quail Creek—our units! Each one is a little world of neighbors, friendships, and fun. First up: Unit 6, one of QC’s originals, tucked just across Quail Crossing Boulevard from the Anza Athletic Club and tennis courts.

And who’s sprinkling a little magic dust over Unit 6 these days? None other than the Fairy Godmothers of Unit 6: Unit Rep Erica Stoker and alternate Nancy McLaughlin, with wise support from longtime Rep Marte Abel and fellow alternate Jeanine Cavagnaro. Let’s meet the dream team:

Erica flew in from Wyoming (via Northern Georgia) and wasted no time diving into QC life when she arrived in May. With her energy and “let’s do this” spirit, she’s already breathing new life into Unit 6.

Nancy, a Michigander by way of a “second home” plan, discovered within months that QC wasn’t just a getaway—it was home. She and her husband made it official in August, and Erica quickly roped her in as a partner-in-fun.

Jeanine, an Oregon transplant, first dipped her toes into QC life in 2022 before making the full-time leap in 2024. She fondly recalls the Chix in Six luncheons at the Grill—proof that Unit 6 knows how to mix food, laughter, and friendship.

Marte, the legendary former rep, spent over a decade leading with heart. She’s famous for turning “too much potato salad” into a culinary adventure. (Who knew potato salad could be a unit tradition?) Today, she’s mentoring the new crew as they rekindle Unit 6’s spark.

What makes Unit 6, and all of QC, so special? Sure, the golf, pools, courts, and restaurants are wonderful. But the real secret sauce is the unity, the way neighbors rally for potlucks, parties, and good times together.

Stay tuned. Next month, we’ll spotlight another QC unit and its shining stars!

Unit Rep Club Welcomes a New Rep—and Wants You!

Carole Berg

The Unit Representatives Club of Quail Creek gathered on Sept. 16, and we’re excited to welcome our newest Alternate Rep for Unit 22W: Joyce Shumate! If you know Joyce, give her a high five for stepping up as one of our Golden Unit Volunteers. And if you’re in Unit 22W, keep an eye out for her friendly face!

Not sure what a Unit Rep does? In short, they help keep our “mini neighborhoods” (known as units) connected, informed, and thriving. Reps welcome new residents, share important updates, deliver the annual Source Book and map, and spark fun social activities. Plus, they meet every other month to exchange ideas that make Quail Creek an even better place to live.

The 2025 officers leading the way are as follows: Chair: Bobbi Gordon, Vice Chair: Martha Love, Secretary: Joan Brown.

Many units still need a Primary or Alternate Rep (including Units 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 18, 21A, 25A, 30/30A-E, 33A-Homes, 33A-Villas, and 33B-Homes). It doesn’t take much time, and it’s a wonderful way to meet neighbors and give back. If you own a villa, we’d especially love for you to consider stepping in. Villas now have their own reps to focus on their unique needs.

And if you don’t know which unit you reside in, just call Member Services with your address and they will be happy to enlighten you!

Want to learn more? Reach out to Bobbi Gordon at ogbg@sbcglobal.net. Better yet, come join us at our next meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. in the Silver Room at the Madera clubhouse.

Come be part of the fun—your neighborhood will thank you!
