The Greater Green Valley Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is once again offering its free basic training course. This year, CERT will use the hybrid approach with both mandatory online training and in-person training sessions. All in-person training will be done at the Santa Rita Fire District Training Center, 1285 W. Camino Encanto, just east of the intersection with Camino Del Sol.
The online course takes about 12 hours to complete and can be started at any time. The course must be completed by Oct. 29. The in-person class will be held on Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please bring a bagged lunch for this class. A disaster exercise that will test the information learned during the training will take place starting at 9 a.m. on Nov. 1. The exercise will be over by noon.
Topics include disaster preparedness; CERT organization; Disaster Medical, Search, and Rescue; and more. To graduate, all students must participate in the disaster exercise.
One may register for the course by going to ggvcert.com and completing the Contact Us form. In the Comments section of the form, indicate CERT Basic Course.
We hope you will consider taking the basic course to learn what CERT can train you to do should you face an emergency situation. There is no charge to take the course, and you will learn skills that will help you even if you don’t decide to join our team. Those who do join will receive a CERT Emergency Kit and T-shirt at no cost. Annual dues are $20.
Sign up today—you won’t regret learning some new skills.
