Commissioned and warrant officers of all branches of the military, as well as officers in the U.S. Public Health Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and surviving spouses of any of these officers, are invited to a Mix & Mingle on Thursday, Oct. 16. This annual event is being sponsored by the Green Valley Chapter, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA). The second oldest MOAA Chapter in Arizona, Green Valley celebrated its 45th anniversary on Sept. 3. The Mix & Mingle will be held at American Legion Post 66, 1560 W. Duval Mine Road, from 4 to 6 p.m. A variety of hors d’oeuvres will be served, and there will be a cash bar. The cost is $15.
The purpose of the Mix & Mingle is to make officers, former, retired, reserve, and National Guard aware of the MOAA program in the local area and their efforts to help others in the community. Every year the group awards scholarships to JROTC cadets from Sahuarita, Walden Grove, Rio Rico, and Nogales High Schools, as well as educational grants to veterans who are enrolled in undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona. They also provide holiday gifts for teens in the Green Valley/Sahuarita area through the Santa Cruz Fire Department and support special projects at the VA Hospital in Tucson.
To register for the Mix & Mingle, please contact Quail Creek resident Peggy McGee at Peggy@GreenvalleyMOAA.org or 520-207-6188. The deadline to sign up is Oct. 10.
