The Quail Creek Writers and Poets Club has chosen a topic for each of the past two years that allows our members to express their take on a subject. Our pets were the first to be our muse. That resulted in the book The Power of Pets, published by Kindle Direct Publishing, a division of Amazon. This was followed by Pivot Points: Life Transitions That Made All the Difference. This topic allowed the members to get personal and reflect on significant events that shaped their world. Both books are available from Amazon.
This year, the club decided to ask writers to focus on a single person—friend, family, or public figure—who had a significant influence on their method of thinking or working. The suggested deadline for submissions for the book is Aug. 31. Even a fictional character who inspires real-life events can be the focus of a story. Just imagine a cartoon character who was a crime-fighter who put you on the path to be a policeman or district attorney. As writers, we encourage each other to be creative and let our imaginations soar.
If this topic interests you and you’d like to contribute, there is plenty of time to do so. Join us. Does seeing your name in print in a book that anyone can purchase from Amazon interest you? It can happen. When we close out our collection of stories on Aug. 31, we start the process of getting our book into form for publication, and by the end of September (or at the latest, early October), we have it for sale on Amazon. Your story about a significant someone can be among those. Members have found our books make excellent Christmas gifts for family and friends.
The Quail Creek Writers and Poets Club has general meetings at 1 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month in the Executive Center of the Kino Center. More information about the club is available on the club’s website at qcwap.org. This website also has information about the more than 60 books published previously by members of the club.
