The first Pistolero Saguaro Classic was held on April 17 at the Quail Creek air gun range. Seven competitors participated in four events. The events consisted of paper targets at 10 yards and 20 yards, silhouettes from 10 to 20 yards, and a “know your limits” event. The wind gusts up to 20 mph kept everyone alert and broke the previous event record, as the winds lifted the shade structures and blew over targets. A good time was had by all, even with a stubborn grill.
A perfect score was achieved by Ron Santos with a score of 500 in the 10-yard event and an excellent score of 499 by Frank Aerstin. Overall awards went to Frank Aerstin with a score of 1008 points for a gold medal, Terry Weist with a score of 963 for silver, and Greg Garman with a score of 956 for bronze.
