The Couples Golf Association recently held their annual two-day championship on Nov. 13 and 15. It was a well-attended event, with 42 teams participating in a flighted tournament. Round one was a team Best Ball, while round two was played in a Chapman format.

This year’s winners for Low Gross are Hope and David Tonso, with Greg and Sung Whitehead taking the Low Net category. Congratulations to both teams!

The first day started out a bit chilly, but it warmed up nicely. By the time the teams finished playing the round and made it over to the practice green for the putting contest, it was downright hot! The putting contest was a highly contested event, with six people making it to the finals. It eventually came down to the two best putters, and it took two holes to determine the winner. Congratulations to David Tonso for the win and Elly Cashel for second.

The two-day event also had multiple skill contests on the course. The winners of those include: Longest Putt: Julie Jensen; Closest to the Pin, Men, Coyote #4: David Kromer; Closest to the Pin, Men, Coyote #8: Jim Topolski; Closest to the Pin, Women, Roadrunner #2: Brenda Allred; and Closest to the Pin, Women, Roadrunner #6: Julia Fox.

After the second round, the members gathered in the Madara clubhouse for a cash bar, announcements of the tournament winners, and the association annual meeting. There were multiple door prizes and raffle items given away during the meeting.

The association said farewell to the outgoing board members, including Tournament Chairperson Bobbi Jo Rathvon, Treasurer Diane Thornton, and Secretary Michele Gazica. The membership then unanimously approved the nominations of new board members Elza Harmon, Radie Haytack, and Cherie McDaniels.

Congratulations again to the new association champions, the winners of the skill events, and all those who took home prizes!
