August Photo Contest Winners

The Photography Club of Quail Creek recently announced the winners of the August photo contest, which focused on Patterns.

Trisha Tubbs won first place with Shadow Pattern, which she took at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. She “was struck by the overall pattern and composition created by the shadows from the ceiling slats; the complementary colors of the wood and stucco, accented by the blue; and the visual interest and energy created by the dynamic angles and curves.” She captured the image with an iPhone 14 Pro Max, 9mm, f/2.8, 1/100 sec, ISO 50, no flash.

John Tubbs won second place with Lizard Scales, a closeup view of the scales on a desert spiny lizard, shot at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. John commented, “Nature is always amazing, and the striking pattern, coloration, and very spiny tips of the scales are quite impressive.” He took the image with a Sony ILCE-1, 400mm, f/8, 1/400 sec, ISO 1600, EXP 0.7, no flash.

Shari Rodgers won third place with Confusion, taken at Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart in Area 15 on a trip to Las Vegas with her grandkids. She said she “had been thinking about patterns a lot for the contest, but nothing was interesting … until we went there, and it was a crazy place and a lot of patterns.” She used an Apple iPhone SE, 3.99 mm, f/1.8, 1/25 sec, ISO 640, no flash.
