Let’s Travel Club Day Trip

Linn Myrick

On April 12 members of Let’s Travel Club went on a day trip to Tucson Botanical Gardens and Reid Park Zoo, with lunch at Trident Grill. Tucson Botanical Gardens is hosting a special exhibit, “Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea.” Washed Ashore is a nonprofit organization committed to combating plastic pollution in the oceans and waterways. Our special guide Dr. Albie Tross provided an entertaining and educational tour through the exhibit—six larger-than-life sea animal sculptures and the marine debris from which they are made.

After lunch at Trident Grill, we had a very informative 60-minute behind-the-scenes experience at the Reid Park Zoo that focused on the medical care and nutrition needs of its animal residents. Last, but not least, we delighted in an up-close and personal experience with Yebonga, a southern white rhino. She is the oldest of her species (with a median life expectancy of about 36 years). On April 15 Yebonga celebrated her 51st birthday!
