Shari Rogers won first place with her photo Rodeo Beauty. Shari commented, “We went to Sonoita for the Kentucky Derby races. We all know the Derby is famous for hats, and this [event] did not disappoint. As I was walking around, I ran into this lovely gal and found out she was the 2022 Princess for the rodeo. She was kind, and I was able to snap the photo. Lovely gal ….” Shari used a Nikon D500 shooting at 120 mm, f/7.1 at 1/125 sec.
Rick Dawes took second place with his photo Derby Day Hat. Rick commented, “I chose this shot because of the girl’s expression. As I asked her parents’ permission to take photos of her, I was captivated by her expressions. This was part of a Hat Day Contest at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.
