In 2022 The Women of Quail Creek’s Community Outreach Committee hosted a supplies shower for the teachers at Continental School. The teachers were so appreciative of the group’s efforts that they decided to do it again, this time for the teachers at Sahuarita Primary School. The school teaches children in grades K-2.
Although the IRS raised the educators’ credit for supplies to $300 for tax year 2022, those who have served as teachers know that they often spend at least double that amount out of pocket each school year. The average teacher’s salary for the Sahuarita Unified School District is $46,117.
The Teachers’ Supply Shower collection will run from July 24 through Aug. 13. Its goal is to get supplies needed for teachers, not students. There will be collection boxes in the Madera clubhouse lobby, at 2197 E. Desert Squirrel Court, and at 1422 E. Blue Granite Drive.
Some of the items that those who teach the younger students can use include:
Printer paper
Colored pencils
Construction paper
Glue sticks
No. 2 pencils
Erasers
Dry erase markers
Dry erase board cleaner
Dry erase board erasers
Desk wipes (Lysol/Clorox wipes)
Kleenex
Markers (washable)
Watercolor palette with brushes
Composition notebooks
Post-it notes in a variety of sizes
Scissors
Hand sanitizer
Gift cards (Amazon for science and art projects, Staples, Starbucks)
The committee asks that all supplies be new.
