Don Beaver, Director of Fitness
As our seasonal Quail Creek residents return, swelling the number of active fitness attendees, a number of changes will be implemented to better accommodate everyone, taking into account our wide range of ages and abilities. On top of that, November is a great month to work on those unwanted pounds prior to our annual holiday traditions of celebrations and inevitable overeating. So, don’t be a stranger and come on out to the Anza for your workout, training session, aquatics, and most of all, fellowship.
* As attendance at the Anza picks up with the return of our winter residents, please remember to bring your card/fob/bracelet so we can expedite the check-in process for the pool, gym, or classes.
* Due to the increased number of attendees, an additional Saturday Gentle Yoga class with Gail Johnson is scheduled beginning in November for this ever-popular session.
* A new class, Fit and Strong with Mari Palazuelos, is slated for November and will focus on preparing attendees for the more rigorous fitness classes, such as HIIT FIT, Body Blast, and Mat Pilates.
* Spoiler alert: During our slower summer months, the 30-minute time limit on cardiovascular equipment (treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, etc.) was not needed, and we were, naturally, spoiled. With the increased saturation of residents during winter months, we are requesting that all fitness attendees be mindful of those who may be waiting to use this equipment during peak times and to limit their exercise time to no more than 30 minutes accordingly.
* Courtesy. Along that same line of thought, please remember during times of peak attendance to be aware of the time spent on each piece of exercise equipment and allow others to work in between your sets, rather than “catch your breath” on the equipment between sets.
* Something good from COVID. Despite the relaxed COVID restrictions, we have chosen to maintain standards as to having attendees wipe down equipment and sanitize hands by providing multiple sanitation wipe and hand sanitizer stations. We also recommend using a personal towel when exercising.
* Aqua accommodations. We recognize that our regularly scheduled cleaning of both pool interiors and decks can be a bit invasive at times, but we hope you understand that we need to protect our recent reinvestment and provide you with the safest and cleanest facilities possible. Please shower before entering the pool. Kids’ hours are daily from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. Please remember to wear coverups inside the Anza, and do not track water indoors. Swim lanes can be reserved online as much as two weeks in advance, but please be considerate and remember to cancel your reservation if you are unable to make your time.
* Court time. All residents can make online court reservations for either pickleball or tennis, but it might be wise to consider membership in either or both the QC Pickleball and/or QC Tennis Clubs due to their reservation priority, and they have great social activities, too!
* Patience, please. We continue to await our new pool/tennis/bocce furniture, which has been on order since April!
* Fitness tip of the month: Working the lower body burns more calories and fat than an upper-body workout. Engaging more muscle fibers requires more fuel, thereby increasing your metabolism. It also aids in improving balance, as well as hip strength and bone density, promoting stability and mobility.
In closing, congratulations to QC residents Jim Cavagnaro and Linda Bleisch who were awarded 20 and 10 punch cards, respectively, as rewards for their September POA class attendance!
