Valley Assistance Services (VAS), a Green Valley based 501(c)(3), is collecting school supplies for the many needy families and their children enrolled in the schools in the southern part of their service area. School supplies should be geared for students in grades kindergarten through 8. More than 92 percent of these students receive either free or reduced-price lunches.
Many families from that area sought help with rent during the COVID crisis. Therefore, in the fall, VAS will be offering free financial literacy classes focusing on budgeting skills to the parents of those children who receive the school supplies.
Donations may be left at the McGee’s house (call Peggy McGee at 520-207-6188 for the address) or delivered to the VAS office at 3950 S. Camino del Heroe in the Springs development. Checks can be made payable to VAS and online donations at valleyassistanceservices.org are also appreciated. Mention “school supplies” in the memo line on checks or in the comments section for online donations.
