Quail Creek activities are starting to return to normal, enabling a more traditional Food for the Troops collection. On July 4, immediately after the flag raising ceremony at the clubhouse and until 9 a.m., the Green Valley Chapter Military Officers Association will be collecting non-perishable foods for the junior enlisted airmen at the 162nd Fighter Wing, Air National Guard. Some of the troops’ favorites include granola bars, tuna, Chef Boyardee products, Hamburger Helper, chili, stew, and soups. Those with children appreciate cereals, dried fruit, and boxed juices. Also needed are paper, cleaning, and hygiene items. There will be an envelope for monetary donations. Checks should be made payable to: MOAA S&MA Fund. Receipts for tax purposes will be mailed to all who donate by check. Checks may also be mailed to: Green Valley MOAA Box 1535 Green Valley, AZ 85622-1535.
Groceries and monetary donations may also be left at the McGee residence at 1908 E Longspur Place any time between July 1 and 4. All donations will be delivered to the National Guard on July 5.
The chapter will also be selling 50-50 raffle tickets on the 4th of July from 7:45 to 9 a.m. in front of the clubhouse. A winner will be drawn during the afternoon of July 4. You do not have to be present to win. Proceeds from the raffle go toward the Turkeys for the Troops event in November. This annual program allows MOAA to purchase turkeys, as well as gift cards, for the troops to enable them to buy the extras needed for a festive Thanksgiving dinner.
Other than this charitable endeavor, the MOAA Chapter will not be hosting any activities during the summer. Activities will resume on Sept. 14 with a luncheon in the Crystal Ballroom.
