Yasmin John-Thorpe
What do you do when a pandemic hits and you are isolated in your home? For Cheryl Anthony, Nikole Haumont, and Yasmin John-Thorpe the challenge served up an opportunity to give their creative minds a workout!
Cheryl Anthony, MS ED., dyslexia consultant, and Yasmin John-Thorpe, author of the Sonoran Desert series, both residents of Quail Creek, joined their talents with marketing specialist, Nikole Haumont, a resident of Sahuarita, to create, publish, and sell books online to students unable to attend in-person classes. These books are aimed at those students at risk of falling behind in their studies, especially in regards to reading skills.
As you read this, Reading Is Fun Books, an online website, will have been launched. These books are written as controlled texts and increase in difficulty with each new unit. These word patterns of control are used to encourage students not to guess the word or words as they attempt to read.
Parents and teachers seeking books for early readers and students struggling with dyslexia can now locate and purchase them from this website. Books introduce new words and offer fun activities for the readers. New books will appear monthly to keep students moving forward on their individual journey to improve their literacy levels of reading and learning!
