The Photo Club of Quail Creek continued with its monthly member’s contest, with July having the topic of “Chaos.” Each club member could enter up to three photos taken in the last three years. This subject was a difficult one for the members and drew 24 entries. All of the photos can be seen on our Flickr site at www.tinyurl.com/yasotoef.
Denny Huber won first place with his photo “Fun With Mirrors.” Denny commented: “If you ever go to Reilly’s Pizza Pub in Tucson, you’ll see this crazy mirror. After a rough afternoon on the Tucson Party Bike, about 12 of us dined at the pub. The mirror was right above our table and I was amused by how jumbled everything looked in it. Various views of my wife and friends can be found in the image.” Denny used an iPhone 8, ¼ sec at f/1.8 for the photo.
Tom Reiman took second place with his photo “Chaotic Cactus.” Tom commented: “Chaotic Cactus was shot as a bracketed image that I post processed using Nik HDR Pro. The image was then reentered into Lightroom for some additional sharpening, and contrast adjustments. My brother, who lives in Ajo, showed me this cactus last year and I was intrigued by how this one grew compared to all the other saguaros in the desert. I love the texture and unusualness of this very special cactus.
The camera used was a Canon EOS R, f/4.0, 59 mm, and ISO 100. The photo was processed in Adobe Lightroom.
The photo “Sonoran Glass School” by Jim Burkstrand placed third. Jim said: “I visited the Sonoran Glass School as part of a Photo Club field trip. Part of the trip was spent watching them demonstrate how they make the beautiful glass that they do; with discussion on obtaining a range of colors. Afterward, we were allowed to wander around the studios, where I came across this bowl of broken colored glass. I learned that these were fed into the blank glass and gave it the multi-colored look that we all enjoyed. I was intrigued by the shapes, textures and colors of what was in the bowl.” The photo was taken with a Canon 80D, 1/60 sec at f/5.0, ISO 500, and a focal length of 45 mm.
