Heather Otto won First Place with her photo Lower Antelope Canyon. Heather commented, “This photo was taken in April 2018 on a tour of Lower Antelope Canyon, which is on the Navajo Reservation about ten minutes south of Page, Arizona. Through the years I have been awed by photographs of Arizona’s slot canyons and was thrilled to have a chance to see and photograph one myself. Because space was limited, I left behind my big Canon DSLR and captured this image using an iPhone 6s. I experimented with a variety of filters and this image was made using the “vivid warm” setting, which made the purple in the rocks “pop.” Lower Antelope Canyon is truly an amazing place. Hidden beneath a barren landscape, the canyon has been sculpted by sand, wind and water for millions of years, providing breathtaking views of swirling layers of rock and great opportunities for photographs wherever you look!” Heather shot this with an iPhone 6s, 1/35 sec at f/2.2, ISO 125. She did some post processing in Photoshop CS5.
Lois Haglund won Second Place with her photo Pareos. Lois commented, “I was in Papeete, Tahiti in May and came across a large market. It was full of colorful fruits and vegetables and, of course, pareos. When I rounded a corner, I was struck by a display of pareos and their colorful folds. I took this picture with the photography club photo contest in mind. As for editing, I cropped off a small unfocused edge and adjusted brightness just a little.” The picture was taken with a Canon EOS 70D, at 55 mm, 1/80 sec and f/5.0, ISO 1600. It was processed in camera and with Windows Photo Editor.
The photo Alley Door by Larry Hudson placed third. Larry commented, “I took this picture when I was visiting Patagonia, Arizona. I was walking down one of the alleys (or unpaved streets) between stores and galleries, when I was struck by the wood gate and red stucco wall against the blue sky.” Larry used a Canon EOS Rebel T2i at 18 mm, 1/250 sec, f/10, ISO 100. The photo was post processed with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.
