September luncheon planned for MOAA

Peggy McGee

After a four-month break while many of its members were traveling, the Green Valley Chapter Military Officers Association (MOAA) will start its fall line-up of activities. First will be a luncheon on Tuesday, September 18 starting at 11:30 a.m. in the Ballroom. Lunch will be served at noon. Menu choices include a cobb salad or enchilada plate with chicken enchilada, chili rellenos, Spanish rice and refried beans. Both entrees will feature a macadamia cookie for dessert. Cost is $17 with checks payable to GV MOAA. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Barbara Brown at 520-625-8066.

The guest speaker will be Karen Kuciver, founder and president of the Women Warriors program in Tucson. The program, a 501(c)(3), was founded about three years ago to enhance the lives of homeless female veterans and provide services to them and their families on a local level. The services, provided through education, coordination and aid, help the veterans regain their self-esteem, trust, honor and dignity so that they can achieve their greatest potential.

MOAA membership is opened to all commissioned and warrant officers, currently serving, retired and former and their spouses. Annual dues are $25 for military members and $15 for spouses. Those joining at the September meeting will have their dues paid through the end of 2019.

Questions about membership can be addressed to Jim Knox, 605-941-0335. For more information, please visit the website at greenvalleymoaa.org.
