The Quail Creek Cool Car Club opened its 2017-2018 drive season with a road trip to visit the Tom Mix Memorial and explore the Boyce Thompson Arboretum on October 5, 2017. Twenty-three members joined the drive. Enroute to the arboretum a brief stop was made at the Tom Mix Memorial on State Highway 79 that marks the spot where the famous cowboy actor died in a 1940 car crash. Club members took in the sights at the arboretum, a 323 acre state park that is Arizona’s oldest and largest botanical garden, by hiking the 1.5 mile main trail, off shoot trails, and visiting the demonstration garden. The arboretum features plants from the world’s deserts, towering trees, captivating cacti and sheer mountain cliffs. On the return trip members stopped at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort for lunch.
In November our cool cars will head west for an overnight trip to attend the 27th annual Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival in Yuma. Sound like fun? Join our ranks and drive with us. Your car is far less important than showing up with a smile on your face. If you think your car is cool, so do we. Contact Jerry Bryant, [email protected], for more information or to join the club.
