Kevin von Felden jumped out to a first quarter 14 to 0 lead, then held on to defeat Dreama Fumia 38 to 27 and capture his second Super Roll championship. Kevin picked up the champion’s cash and Super Roll trophy. Dreama won the conference championship cash prize. Mike Premo and Super Roll VII champion Debbie Huber shared the division champion’s money.
Additional cash payouts for the Big Game quarterly scores were won by Peggy Kimes, Linda von Felden (2), and Jack Matsen.
Diane and Lance Manning hosted their eighth annual Super Roll party with 16 couples attending. Pregame and tailgating kicked off early with chef Diane preparing appetizers of smoked salmon, pot stickers, hot wings, crab cakes, shrimp cocktail and assorted chips, dips and more. At halftime it was pulled pork, cowboy beans and coleslaw, followed by an array of desserts. Nobody left hungry!
Led by Linda von Felden and her pom-poms, the cheerleaders included Lynda Rivard, Debbie Huber, Peggy Kimes, Deb Riddell, Kathleen Baker and Nancy Hebert. Jerry Smith brought an air pump to inflate the football and a scale to weigh the dice and still failed to get past the second round of the Super Roll!
By far this was the loudest, rowdiest and most boisterous Super Roll in its eight year history at Quail Creek. The competition was tough and the trash talk abundant. The veterans showed no mercy to the rookie couple Randy and Janet Mathis as both lost in the first round. Party penalties were assessed (mostly to the cheerleaders) for excessive celebration in the end zone, roughing the ref, toss interference and illegal use of pom-poms.
Jim Hart was once again the party’s official scorekeeper and this year Coni Jewett was acting sous chef assisting Diane in the kitchen. Lance and Diane would like to thank all the guests for making the party one to remember.
