Dreama Fumia, on behalf of the POA Board

On November 10 our QC committee volunteers and invited guests were treated to an evening of Bingo, snacks and fun as the POA Board thanked the volunteers for their many contributions to the community.

POA Board President Ron Darrah was emcee for the evening, with POA Board member Gil Lusk serving as our Bingo host! Approximately 80 volunteers and guests attended, with representation from the following POA Board committees: Activities; Finance; Green; Food and Beverage; Sports; Education; Rules; Architecture and Landscape; and the Unit Reps. Library volunteers were also represented along with Xtra editor Margaret Blumberg and designer Dianne Thomson. Volunteers who normally assist with our monthly Bingo nights helped out with this event as well and were recognized for their continuing support to all things Bingo.

The Board recognizes that there are many other volunteers who help make our community the great place to live that it is, but our POA Board committee volunteers are mostly unsung heroes deserving of a little extra recognition. They provide recommendations to the POA Board in their various areas of interest, giving the Board a broader understanding of residents’ concerns and ideas for improvement.

Bingo caller Joe Carlone led the volunteers through 13 Bingo games before a final blackout game. Ron Darrah dedicated each game to one of the groups of volunteers, recognizing each for their unique efforts. Many of the volunteers were new to Bingo and expectations were that they might be more interested in socializing than Bingo. But, no! All eyes were on their Bingo cards and there was not a sound to be heard other than the calling of the letters and numbers. The moral of the story seems to be this is a focused group of achievers who can stay on task – even if the task is Bingo! Ron concluded the evening with yet another expression of thanks from the POA Board to all our volunteers.

If you are interested in becoming a QC committee volunteer, please pick up an application in the Madera Clubhouse, fill it out and return it to the Concierge Desk.
