Jackie Gleason coined the phrase but these Quail Creek community gardeners and friends have taken it to another level. Texas Super Sweet onions live up to their name. How sweet is it? It’s so sweet that eating a raw onion is like chomping on an apple. The softball sized yellow skin globes have sweet and zesty white flesh.

Grown locally in their garden east of the FICO pecan orchard, these Ogden Sweets, a phrase coined by Allen J. Ogden garden manager George Stone, “have been in their beds since November 15, 2013. We are about ready to harvest. Once removed from the ground the onions will be left in the plot to dry. That process will take about 7 to 10 days.”
