A little history of The Socials. The Socials are an 11 piece soul band featuring four vocalists: the one and only Blues Brother, Gaslight Theater’s Charlie Hall; featuring Rebecca Carlson of the Jive Bombers and the Jane Crowe Band; Genevieve Gaus of Genevieve and the LPs; Alex Flores of the Bad News Blues on vocals and tenor sax; as well as Johnny Guitar Mike Blommer also of the Bad News Blues Band.
The rhythm section features Rich Katz on keys, Aaron Emery on drums, Sam Eagon on bass with Kevin Shumaker on Baritone Saxophone, Rick Peron on trumpet and Salvador Lopez on trombone. We are proud to be carrying on the tradition and the art of some of the great bands of the past that influenced us as musicians and people while making the music speak differently through our own voices. The Socials create a unique sound and energy from the vocabulary of soul, R&B, Motown, funk and blues from the 60s to today. Our passion for the music and joy of making music with close friends and colleagues from the Tucson music scene makes The Socials Essential Soul Show a dynamic experience. The show will feature music from Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Temptations, The Jackson 5, Sharon Jones and Dap Kings, James Brown, Sam and Dave, Otis Redding, Chaka Kahn, Sly and The Family Stone and many more.
We have come together this time to help one of The Socials and his family. Charlie Hall and the Hall family have been through a difficult time recently. Two of the four family members, father and daughter, were diagnosed with terminal cancer. The Socials and The Gaslight Theater teamed up this last summer to host a benefit concert, Music for the Soul, to help the Hall family. It was an incredible opportunity to help those in need and at the grace of some good friends and Green Valley residents. We are excited to share with the Quail Creek Community Music for the Soul II. With 50% of the proceeds from the show heading to the Hall Family, we are hoping to share what we love to do to help a loved one and family. We are very grateful and excited to be invited into the community.
