Here in Quail Creek, as in every community developed for active adults, we have every activity available that we could possibly do. We are also surrounded by every illness that comes through aging and some which have no reason to attack us, yet do. Breast Cancer strikes men and women alike at every age.

The Women Golfers of Quail Creek once a year come together in support of the work of Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Breast Cancer. This year we will meet on Thursday, November 3 for our seventeenth annual Rally for the Cure, In the Saguaro Sunshine.

Utilizing our three courses, we hold an 18 hole event and two nine-hole events as well as a putting competition. We host a wonderful raffle with donations from local artisans and businesses and other golf clubs. And most proudly, at our luncheon, we acknowledge the survivors of cancer who live in Quail Creek – such strong women who continue to live life to the fullest. Most of these women have played golf with us at this event. On the tees we exhibit signs in Memory Of and Honor Of those who were loved and lost their battle to this insidious disease.

This event is organized by representatives of the three Quail Creek Women’s Golf Associations on behalf of all of us and we are supported by the Pro Shop and Green workers, the Banquet staff and other Madera Clubhouse workers.

The funds raised are donated to Susan G. Komen which, according to their literature, “invests 83 cents of every dollar raised in their mission.” This mission includes ground breaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and global awareness. The largest portion of their funds goes to education and research with community programs improving access to mammography and other screening services receiving large support. We are pleased to be able to continue to support their commitment.

Registration opens on August 8 for all events. Registration forms are available in the Pro Shop in a specially marked chest of drawers built for our use in 2015 by three members of our Woodworking Club. Registration closes on October 24. If you have an item you could donate for one of the raffle baskets, please contact Sharon Paxson at 909-8919. If you would like to assist with the planning of the day please contact Gail Phillips at 822-8742.
