Quail Creek resident Rich Diou was among the six graduates from the recent Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) basic training course.  The 20-hour course was held at the Green Valley Fire District Training Center. At the conclusion of the training that covered such topics as disaster preparedness, terrorism and disaster medical operations among others, the students had to pass both a comprehensive written examination as well as successfully complete a practical exercise in which they demonstrated knowledge of the material learned in the classes.

Several Quail Creek residents, all previous graduates of the course, volunteered to serve as victims. They sustained injuries from a simulated natural gas explosion. Although some of the injuries posed a challenge for the new CERT students, they all performed admirably. Fortunately, the victims recovered in time to join the students for graduation pizza.
