The Quail Creek Veterans Golf Association (QCVGA) held its annual “Battle of the Branches” and “Club Championship” event at Quail Creek on Saturday, March 23. With 76 golfers playing on a beautiful Saturday morning, it was a fun and spectacular event. The format is individual play from either the silver or copper tees, this year playing Roadrunner and Quail. For the first time in QCVGA history, the Air Force team was invincible in the battle (each team member received $28 for winning)! The Navy/Marines/Coast Guard team finished second with the usual winners of the past, the Army, finishing in third place. Fun was had by all and the golf was followed by a luncheon serving hamburgers or brats!

In addition to the Battle of the Branches, this event crowned the QCVGA Club Champions, both Low Gross and Low Net. In another historical first, the husband and wife team of Al and Kathy Olbeter won the championship – Al as the Low Gross Champion (80 gross) and Kathy as the Low Net Champion (62 net)! Each was awarded a trophy and $50 for their winning rewards. Steve Perry, John Strecker, Randy Dancliff, Steve Steiger and Rene Gill all won cash awards for finishing first in their respective flights, as well. The next QCVGA tournament will be the Veterans Day event to be held in November; watch for it and join us!
