Clubhouse Library notes

Larry Thomson

Donations of recently published books, audio book CDs and magazines are always needed. Just place items in the wicker donation box near the hall door. This time of year our shelves can look lean, so please return items promptly.

If you are curious about the history of the clubhouse library, there is a short history narrative in the Library Operations Manual on top of the return cabinet.

2013 was a record year for donations of our surplus items with over 4000 books and magazines going to the VA Hospital, 3463 books, Green Valley Animal League, Green Valley Library Bookstore and the White Elephant.

We estimate our current annual circulation to be 12,000 plus books.

On February 1, minor shelving revisions were made. The specially labeled large print books were integrated alphabetically into the general collection. All non-fiction books were moved on to the open shelves. Some of the jigsaw puzzles were moved and space was made available for games and movie DVDs which had not been retained previously. Donations of games and movies are now needed. The decision was also made that copyright date limitations on shelving older books would not be applied to selected popular authors, initially Lee Child, Janet Evanovich, Sue Grafton and J.A. Jance. All their books will be shelved. Currently most books are only retained and shelved if they have a copyright date of 2007 or later.
