After 10 years as facilitators of the Touched By Cancer Support Group, Terrie O’Dierno and Ginny Hutcheson have made the hard decision to not continue facilitating the Quail Creek Cancer Support Group meetings. Because of the COVID virus, the last meeting held was the second Monday in March. The Nov. 9 meeting was canceled. The Touched By Cancer Support Group name will still be available if another facilitator is interested in continuing the meetings. The meeting room at the clubhouse has been requested for 2021.
Quail Creek cancer survivors will be referred to the Sahuarita group, which is called the Living With Hope Cancer Support Group. The meetings are on the third Wednesday of the month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Rancho Sahuarita at 600 W. Camino Rancheria, Sahuarita, AZ. In 2010, when the Quail Creek support group started with a priest and a psychologist helping, the idea was to have volunteers support cancer survivors in many areas. The plan was to help by delivering groceries, walking dogs, house cleaning, visiting survivors, holding meetings, and giving caregiver support. At least 20 volunteers were lined up to help. There were more volunteers than there were cancer survivors asking for assistance. It turned out that Quail Creek is such a friendly community that cancer survivors seemed to be getting their support from their friends and neighbors.
