Bites, stings and scratches

Peggy McGee

Naturalist Jeff Babson kept The Women of Quail Creek both entertained and informed when he talked about the things in the desert that bite, sting and scratch or for the unlucky victim, perhaps all of the above. Armed with a plethora of photos, Jeff, owner of Sky Island Tours, an environmental education and eco-tour company, talked about bees, scorpions, rattlesnakes, poison ivy and other natural hazards in our area.

Jeff began his presentation by explaining the difference between venomous and poisonous critters. Venomous are those that inject their toxins through bites while poisonous plants or animals must be ingested.

All who attended will surely be more careful when they lose a golf ball in tall grass or walk outside at night.
