Update on proposed Rosemont Copper Mine at DCQC May 20 meeting

Gayle Hartmann will be the guest speaker at the Democratic Club of Quail Creek meeting on Saturday, May 20, 3:00 p.m., at the Madera Clubhouse Silver Room. She will provide an update on the proposed Rosemont Copper Mine in the Santa Rita Mountains. The public is welcome to attend.

Hartmann is the president of the Save the Scenic Santa Ritas Association, a coalition of approximately 100 business, homeowner, environmental and recreational organizations in southern Arizona that is leading the opposition to the proposed Rosemont Mine in the Santa Rita Mountains.

She has worked as an archaeologist and archaeological editor at the Arizona State Museum, University of Arizona and for several environmental consulting firms in Tucson. She is the author or co-author of numerous journal articles and of several books. She has also been the editor of Kiva: The Journal of Southwestern Anthropology and History, the premier journal of southwestern anthropology.

She served on the Pima County Planning and Zoning Commission and was a member of the Steering Committee of the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan. She also served two terms on the Board of Trustees of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and was President of the Board of Trustees of St. Michael’s School. She has been a resident of Tucson for 50 years.
