April 18, the date of The Women of Quail Creek’s fourth annual baby shower for expectant mothers of military families, is fast approaching. Noah’s Ark is, once again, the fun theme. Usually a summer event, many of our winter visitors indicated a desire to be here and take part in making the shower a success—thus, the earlier date of this year’s shower.

The shower is a way of showing community support to service women and men. This year’s shower is being held for 25 moms to be of Air and Army National Guard families. In order to attend either the mother or father must be currently active in the armed forces. It takes a great number of newborn baby essentials to fill the totes and baskets prepared by the baby shower committee for each mom attending. Sue Ann Obremski personally made the totes and embroidered bibs and burp cloths for each baby. Others in the community have been hard at work knitting items but many more donations are still needed.

Suitable layette items especially needed include baby clothes, sizes two months to 24 months, for both boy and girl babies. Diapers, wipes, baby lotions, crib blankets and baby toys would be appreciated. One of a kind items including baby books, picture frames, strollers, high chairs and new car seats are being sought to use as special prizes. April 15 is the cutoff date for contributions. Cash contributions are much appreciated to allow the purchase of additional necessities, such as diapers, to fill the baskets given to each family. Checks should be made out to TWOQC Charity Account.

Donations and checks may be dropped off at any time to Pam Rodgers at 2640 E. Sawyer Road. Donations may also be put in the colorful decorated collection boxes located in the Madera Clubhouse Lobby and the ANZA Athletic Club.
