Fifty six intrepid TRIPS participants rode the bus south to Nogales, Sonora on April 11.

The welcome committee was headed by the President of the Chamber of Commerce. The group was introduced to the area of dental offices and pharmacies frequented by many Quail Creek residents. Sahuarita Mayor Tom Murphy, Town Councilman Gil Lusk and three staff accompanied the group to familiarize themselves with this vibrant city.

A tour of the city of 500,000 followed with bus and guide. During the tour a stop was made at a famous plaza and then at El Marcos for refreshments provided by the owner. Everyone we met was very welcoming and very happy that Nogales was one of the TRIPS destinations for this year.

A beautiful luncheon was awaiting the group at the famous La Roca Restaurant, an easy walk from downtown. Specializing in fish dishes with a Mexican touch, La Roca is a well-known institution.

Following lunch the group was able to get in some shopping for mostly home decor items and met at the DiConcini gate for a very easy passport check and boarding our awaiting bus for the return to Quail Creek.

The Quail Creek travelers were a friendly, flexible and appreciative bunch which always means a great deal to the TRIPS planning committee. TRIPS are planned October through May by a committee of volunteers. Watch What’s Happening for the May trip to the Fred Whipple Observatory.
