Trips celebrates Chinese New Year in style

What a day! Thirty two Quail Creek residents attended the performance showcase for the 2015 Arizona Chinese New Year Festival on January 31.

The Confucius Institute of the University of Arizona sponsored this extravaganza for all to enjoy the colorful Chinese Culture celebrating the Year of the Sheep.

The first part of the program, held at Centennial Hall, highlighted the talents of all ages from various dance schools. The Tucson Girls Chorus was delightful. In addition, there was a martial arts demonstration and a Chinese instrument ensemble.

The Chandler Civic Orchestra was featured in the second half of the program, which included soloists on three different uniquely Chinese instruments. The guzheng, the sheng and the erhu were new to most of us.

After the performance the group attended a Chinese banquet at the Dragon’s View Chinese Restaurant. The specially prepared dishes were delicious and a good time was had by all of the participants around the family style circular tables.

Happy New Year of the Sheep from the Trips Committee.
