Quilt Covey news

Sharon Thompson

The Quail Creek Quilt Covey will be selling tickets at the November Quail Creek Fall Festival for a chance to win this year’s Opportunity Quilt, a colorful Trip Around the World queen size quilt. This quilt was made by members of the Quilt Covey and all proceeds from this sale will be used to purchase supplies for making charity quilts next year. The Covey will also have for sale other quilts made by the members, the proceeds of which will also be used for charity projects.

In 2011 Covey members, with a generous contribution from Mr. Robson, purchased a long arm quilting machine. This year Covey members have used this machine to quilt 94 charity quilts; charity meaning we may sell to obtain more fabric and other supplies for charity work or the quilt will be donated to a local charity. Since the machine was purchased, members have used it for 892 hours of charity quilting, 193 hours of personal quilting and 113 hours of training.

In February 2014, Covey members will be teaching beginning quilting lessons. In addition to teaching the basics of quilting, Covey members can learn to quilt using the long arm quilting machine, explore art quilting, participate in round robins, mystery quilts and learn new techniques to apply to traditional quilting.

The Covey meets Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. in the Fine Arts Room. Visitors and quilters of all skill levels are welcome. For more information contact Sharon English at 777-4005, [email protected] or Carol Bisio at 647-2012, [email protected].
