PCQC photo contest – automobiles

First place

Second Place

Third Place

The Photo Club of Quail Creek continued with its monthly member’s contest with February having the topic of automobiles. Each club member could enter up to three photos taken in the last three years. This subject proved to be very appealing and drew 33 entries. All of the photos can be seen on our Flickr site: https://www.flickr.com/photos/129343350@N08/albums/72157679285708668.

Deb Nesbitt won first place with her photo Ford Truck Light and Grill. Deb commented, “Recently I attended the QC Business Expo up at the Madera Clubhouse. In the parking lot I noticed a beautifully restored old Ford pickup. I thought this would be the perfect subject to enter into the QC photography club February contest, as the theme was automobiles. My favorite type of photography is macro or close-ups. I like to make the subject somewhat abstract. Just show part of the image and let the imagination fill in the rest of the story. So, I took a handful of images from different angles to capture color, contrasts, texture and form. The camera I used was simply my phone, an LG V20. I used Photoshop Elements, an old version, to size and adjust lighting a little bit.”

Shari Rogers took second place with her photo Old Car. Shari commented, “My husband is a hiker and told me about this old remnant of a car along the Arizona National Scenic Trail at Kentucky Camp. He thought it would make an interesting picture so off we went on a photography adventure. Once I saw it, I knew I had to photograph it! I kept the wall in the photo to add texture and thought it played nicely off the rusty metal frame. My camera is a Nikon D3300. The photo was shot at 1/2000 sec, f 7.1, 66 mm on a very windy day.”

The photo A Yellow Beauty by Vern Soohn placed third. Vern said, “All my life I have wanted a Corvette, but couldn’t find one in a price range I was comfortable with. Then I found this beautiful Pontiac Solstice. Since we have such beautiful landscaping around Quail Creek, I decided to take this picture. As fate would have it, shortly after I took this picture, I found my Corvette and sold the Solstice to another Quail Creek resident. Karma.” This photo was shot ISO 100, 1/1000 sec. f/4.0, 6 mm, using a Canon PowerShot SX60. It was post processed using Lightroom Classic.

The Photography Club of Quail Creek has a monthly photo contest for its members and also schedules numerous photo field trips for members throughout the year.
