MOAA to gather for dinner in November

Peggy McGee

The Green Valley Chapter of the Military Officers Association (MOAA) will meet for dinner in Crystal Ballroom number 1 on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The social period begins at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. The menu will feature a choice of stuffed pork or chicken cordon bleu. Both are served with seasonal vegetables. Dessert will feature a mixed berry pie. The cost of the meal is $26.50. Reservations can be made by calling Quail Creek resident Phil Lamb at 520-771-6098 or 503-730-3664 no later than Nov. 6.

Membership is open to commissioned and warrant officers, active duty, reserve, National Guard, former and retired. Spouses of deceased officers also are invited to join the Green Valley Chapter. If you’re a military officer, MOAA invites you to give our chapter, one of the more active in Arizona, a try. Dues are $25 per year for military members and $15 for spouses.

During the evening, election of officers for 2020 will take place.

The Green Valley Marine Corps League will be accepting donations for its annual Toys for Tots campaign at the dinner. Toys or other gifts for infants up to teens age 16 are needed. While the younger children prefer toys, the teens like gift cards for fast food restaurants or for iTunes. Those wishing to avoid a trip to a shopping mall may make checks payable to GV MOAA Scholarship and Military Assistance Fund. Then one check will be given to Toys for Tots from the chapter for them to use to purchase items where the need is greatest.

Attendees are also asked to bring 2020 calendars, greeting and note cards, wrapping paper, and the many other unordered items that seem to arrive in mailboxes during the holiday season. Also needed are new socks and underwear for men and women, reading glasses, and snack foods, such as cheese and crackers, granola bars, individual packages of dried fruit, chips, and canned tuna. These will be donated to the VA Hospital in Tucson for use by hospitalized and homeless veterans.
