Lapidary Club learns from professional precious stone expert

Mike DeMeritt, professional precious stone expert and owner of Silver Lining Gemstones from Amado, Arizona shared his knowledge with the Lapidary and Jewelry Club. Club members cut and polished a rough gemstone into a jewelry-grade Cabochon.

Mike will be in the Lapidary and Jewelry studio again from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. on June 15. Ask questions, purchase or just see Mike’s unique and award-winning work.

Nancy Riordon, Marsha Royer and Sandy VanMieghem taught club members how to cut a copper bracelet from a die using the hydraulic press. First the copper was textured, then heated and formed into a cuff shape. Finally, the piece was polished and/or given a patina.
